Of course you have to work but people don’t like to hear all the music playing and things like that. Like a lot of contractors have to have their music going. Well that’s not my way. My way is to do it for others, as I would have them do for me. The golden rule is that I don’t play music in other people’s houses. And for safety reasons. That’s their house and I’m like a guest in their home and I treat their home as if it is the only one and I stay there until the job is completed. I don’t have several Painter Erie PA jobs going on, one at a time until I complete them. I don’t jump around. I stay with them. I usually start at 8 AM but sometimes people ask me to start at 9 AM and that’s OK.
I prefer to start at 8 AM and I usually finish by 4:30.
I take a lunch break half hour sometimes a little longer if I have to get to the paint store wonderful thing to do to work on other people’s homes makes me proud to be a painter an American and it is a wonderful thing to be accepted in the peoples homes to work and to change a room can paint some good hard work and some repairs on the plaster and woodwork can make it look fresh and new again that is my pride and joy and a meat people that have such fine homes is a real joy. I remember Gail Cobb at the Painter Erie PA paint store in Warren Pennsylvania. There are some things that he would tell me that he retired and he said that he doesn’t miss the work so much but he does miss the people. I can understand that now Gail Cobb was a good friend of the painters. He always gave us a deal on paint and was a wonderful man, he had Cobbs paint store, the owner of it and his whole family worked there. His daughter was in the wallpaper department. His son was the partner hard-working partner and always enjoyed talking. I shared my experience and he would tell me things to help when I was a teenager. I think I started at 12 years old. I would go down there to the store and he would ask me to unload the truck carrying paint buckets and tools into the store, maybe spend an hour or two and they would give me $15 or $20. That was a lot of money back then. That was back in the 60s and 70s we thought we were rich. My brother would help sometimes. Yeah, I miss Gail Cobb.
There were a lot of good men like that in my life, Mr. Miller from the five and dime, very kind, good to us boys and there was Luke at Howell’s true value in Warren Pennsylvania is a Hardware store.
One of the best hardware stores I’ve ever seen. He sells Benjamin Moore paint and some other brands. They have their own Painter Erie PA store brand true value and a lot of times we would go there to get supplies for paint, drywall and plaster repair. He had some of the best tools you could get and if he didn’t have it, he knew where to get it. Luke would always take time to order it. That was another great man in Warren Pennsylvania. He was always very caring and always accommodating. He seemed to really love the contractors and the painters and always wanted to help. Another one was Mr. Lewis at the grocery store. We would go in there many times for lunch and he would make us sandwich meatballs or whatever.
He was famous for meatballs and pizza sandwiches.
He always gave us a little extra with such wonderful personalities. and we had another hardware store, we were friends with Pete Peterson from Bains’s hardware in Sheffield PA. That guy would remember me even if I didn’t see him for five years. He still remembered me. I would just go to different Painter Erie PA hardware stores wherever I was working. If I was working in Sheffield, I would go there. Depending on where I was working. I would shop for tools, but these people recommended me for a lot of residential Painter Erie PA work back in those days. We didn’t think we had to advertise. because other people would do it for us by saying good things about us, but some things have changed. A lot of people have moved out of town. Lotta new ones moved into town.
A lot of our good customers passed away and a lot of times it was because of divorce so advertising is something very important.
Now we still have a lot of people who recommended us, by word of mouth and that really goes far. But I am trying to expand my horizon to get more work to get better jobs. Better homes, better businesses, better buildings to work on. I put it aside cause I don’t wanna break it and so I can focus on my work and get it done in at least amount of time possible with good results with the kind of results that my customers deserve all the ones I work for every house every business every man, woman and boy deserve better and I and for the most part, the better choice for a painter because when I fix something, you cannot find where I fixed it and when I paint something I wanted to look as perfect as possible as good as it can get . I want to look like something and I want them to have me back and I want my customers to recommend me to their friends and family
